GoPicnic Meals

snack packs

More Read to Eat

Ok, so full disclosure, calling these GoPicnics a meal may stretch it, but they definitely serve as a good snack, especially for lunches, travel, or field trips.  We found these multi-packs recently at BJs.  We have also seen them in individual packages too.

So what do you get?  They do come in a variety.  You can find the varieties here, but you usually see a box with crackers, some meat or paste, and some other things.  A trail mix, a dessert (cookie, bar, etc), and other things.  They do a nice job on the website discussing what standards they take when calling the products gluten free:

GoPicnic products are in accordance with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) proposed regulations on gluten-free labeling. FDA proposed regulations on the items labeled “gluten-free” means that a food bearing this claim do not contain any one of the following:

  • An ingredient that is a prohibited grain
  • An ingredient that is derived from a prohibited grain and that has not been processed to remove gluten
  • An ingredient that is derived from a prohibited grain and that has been processed to remove gluten, if the use of that ingredient results in the presence of 20 parts per million (ppm) or more gluten in the food 20 ppm or more gluten

So we would feel pretty comfortable with having our girls eat these.  Now, to find one they like!

Celiac and Hookworms?

worm

Can these microscopic worms help Celiacs consume gluten?

Did you see the little brief in the Science and Technology part of the News and Observer yesterday? You can see it here, but the gist is scientists discovered that Celiacs injected with hookworms show fewer symptoms of Celiac and gluten complications. You can find a larger article on Science Daily here.

In the study, they injected people with 20 hookworm larvae, then began giving increasing doses of gluten. Not sure how they found out to even use hookworms. Or I cannot see how someone would volunteer, but I am glad to see this research occurring. Maybe soon we will get the benefits of hookworm injections through some kind of pill or less invasive treatment
