Harvestland Chicken Sausage and More!

We try to get some protein into our girls whenever possible.  Celiac can sometimes make that difficult, as many regular kids go after chicken nuggets and other things to get their protein.  We do live heavily on soybeans, peanut butter, and chicken.  Glad to have many options, including our girls’ favorite-rotisserie Chicken (we reviewed options from BJs here: http://www.raleighcelkids.com/?p=669).

While cruising BJs, we found Harvestland’s (brand of their rotisserie chickens) chicken sausage.  If you ever cook with Italian Sausage, this chicken sausage is in the same shape and size, just made with chicken instead of pork.  Clearly marked gluten free on the label!

One of my favorite meals is hot sausage–sausage cooked with peppers and onions in a tomato sauce.  Now to find some good gluten free hoagie rolls, and we will be ready!

Hi there! The Farm Rich frozen meatballs from Walmart (Original flavor and Italian flavor) are also a good source of protein. And since they aren’t marketed as a specific gluten free product, the price is comparable to any other brand of frozen meatballs. Add some tomato sauce and the meatballs to a Schar sub roll and that’s a delicious meatball sub!

My son can only eat the Original flavor since he’s also casein free, and he’s extremely picky, but he loves these meatballs.

Thanks for this awesome blog… it is such a good resource.

    Sara,

Did not know about Farm RIch…will need to try them. One of my daughters will definitely go for it!
